Mike McCarthy Announces Key Cowboys Player Could Be Back This Week

The Dallas Cowboys‘ defensive line could be at full strength this Sunday when they take on the Washington Football Team. Moments ago, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy had a promising update on defensive end Randy Gregory.

McCarthy told reporters that Gregory will return to practice for the Cowboys this Wednesday. He has been out since Week 9 due to a calf injury.

Gregory isn’t the only defensive lineman who might return to the Cowboys’ lineup this weekend. Defensive tackle Neville Gallimore has spent the entire season on injured reserve because of an elbow injury, but he could make his 2021 season debut this Sunday.

Of course, McCarthy would love to have Gregory and Gallimore available for this weekend’s pivotal NFC East showdown.

“It would be great if both of those guys could go Sunday,” McCarthy said on Wednesday morning.

During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan earlier this week, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones made it sound like Gregory will absolutely play this Sunday.

“Well, they’ve had a great couple of weeks,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “They’ve got to go out there and they’ll take another step this week with full practices. Unless there is a setback, which we certainly don’t expect — now, we’re preparing them to play in the game, but they got to certainly continue to progress, which they have every step of the way. But they’ve got to finish the full body of work, which is the full preparation for the game against the Washington Football Team.”

Gregory’s return would give the Cowboys’ defense a huge boost this weekend. In seven games this season, the Nebraska product has 12 quarterback hits, 10 total tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles.
