After winning the starting job at Ohio State, quarterback C.J. Stroud had a terrific year that will see him finish as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. But one of his teammates, freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers, has decided to leave rather than stay as his understudy.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Stroud offered up his thoughts on the now-former Ohio State freshman. He said that he supports Ewers’ decision to transfer and added that he still loves him like a brother.
“That’s still my brother, I still love him… I’m behind him 100 percent,” Stroud said.
Ewers rode the bench for the first two months of the 2021 season. He didn’t even see the field for garbage time snaps until November.

C.J. Stroud, meanwhile, took the college football world by storm in his first year as a starter. He led the Buckeyes to a 10-2 regular season record while throwing for 3,862 yards and 38 touchdowns with just five picks.
While Stroud couldn’t beat Ohio State’s arch-rival Michigan, he has at least one more year to lead the Buckeyes to a conference title.
As for Quinn Ewers, Stroud’s “brother” is still looking for a transfer destination. But he’s reportedly down to just a couple of potential finalists.
The next time Stroud and Ewers see each other on a football field – if it ever happens – will likely be during bowl season.
