Police have charged a 23-year-old man with careless driving following a five-car pile-up that closed a motorway for six and a half hours - minutes after the street had re-opened following an earlier incident.
Cops had barely left the scene on the M8 in West Lothian after responding to calls of "concern for an individual" when the crash occurred on the eastbound carriageway between Junctions 4 and 4a, between Whitburn and Blackburn. The street had re-opened at 2.45pm after being closed for 3 and a half hours attributable to prior occasions.
Officers closed the motorway in each instructions once more at 2.50pm after the smash occurred to be able to enable an air ambulance to land on the scene. "Enquiries are ongoing and any drivers with dashcam footage ought to contact officers on 101 quoting incident 2145 of 16 July."
