There’s always been good money in college football, but that point was really hammered home over the past week.
Coaches like Lincoln Riley, Brian Kelly, Mel Tucker and James Franklin, among others, all signed new contracts approaching the $100 million range.
According to FOX NFL insider Jay Glazer, those in the professional ranks were “shocked” by the college football news.
Only a handful of NFL coaches are making $10 million a season, according to Glazer. From Pro Football Talk:
Glazer predicts that NFL coaching salaries could double or triple in the next year or two. We recently reported that the top of the NFL market is expected to get to $25 million per year, soon.
Glazer also said that only a handful of NFL coaches are currently making more than $10 million per year.
If college football head coaches are getting $100 million contracts, you can bet that some big-time NFL head coaches will be negotiating for even more.
One such coach, Kliff Kingsbury, is reportedly set to negotiate for a new contract this offseason. He likely won’t be the only one.
