Days after his controversial performance against the Minnesota Vikings this past Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool is continuing to get criticism for how he behaved in the loss. Hall of Fame head coach Tony Dungy decided to weigh in too.
A video from NFL Memes on Twitter has circulated over the last few days. It contrasts how Claypool and former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald behaved in situations where situational awareness was crucial.
Claypool celebrates while holding onto the ball, wasting time off the clock. But Fitzgerald grabs the ball and ran it to the line for QB Kyler Murray to spike.
Dungy saw the video and called Claypool out for it. He called it “The difference between “a true pro” and “learning to be a pro”!”

Chase Claypool had eight receptions for 93 yards in the game. But he also had a very silly penalty early in the game as the Steelers tried to keep pace with the high-octane Vikings offense.
The Vikings scored 29 unanswered points to start the game, but the Steelers managed to come within one drive of tying the game late. Perhaps the Steelers might have been closer if Claypool hadn’t made those mistakes.
Claypool is going to be getting an earful from fans for the rest of the season if they miss the playoffs. It may be a long time before Claypool earns everyone’s confidence back.
