Magic Johnson Reveals His Pick For The Heisman Trophy

Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson made no bones about who he believes should win this year’s Heisman trophy.

On Saturday, the NBA legend celebrated his alma mater’s win on Twitter and added his two cents on the Heisman race.

“Hip Hip hooray!” Johnson tweeted. “[Michigan State Football] finished the season 10-2 and Kenneth Walker III, the player who SHOULD win the Heisman, finished with 138 yards!”

Magic, of course, starred at Michigan State and led the school to a national championship in the 1978-79 season. So there may be a little Spartan bias at play for the Hall-of-Fame point guard.

The junior running back closed his season, and possibly career, with a bang. The Big Ten’s leading rusher ran all over Penn State and may have ran his way into a spot as a Heisman trophy finalist.

He finishes the regular season with 1,498 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Right now, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is the consensus favorite. Though the sophomore did struggle against 6-5 Auburn before leading the Crimson Tide the length of the field to tie things up and eventually win in four overtimes.

The Heisman has overwhelmingly become a QB award despite a few winners here and there.

Walker’s been a consistent weapon for Sparty all season long but rushing for just 25 yards on six carries in a 56-7 loss to Ohio State likely ended any real chance he had to win.

But we do know if Magic had a vote, the 1,500-yard rusher out of MSU would get it.
