Scots travelling again dwelling on the west coast mainline for Hogmanay have been "deserted" after flooding closed the road and railway bosses failed to rearrange onward journey.
Avanti West Coast, which runs cross-country companies on the road, introduced on Saturday morning that it had cancelled companies north of Carlisle on account of a landslip at Carstairs attributable to heavy downpours. Nonetheless, the operator says it has not organised ticket acceptance with different practice firms, nor will it prepare substitute bus companies on account of "heavy street flooding".
In tweets issued on Hogmanay at 8am, Avanti stated: "As a consequence of a landslip close to Carstairs, all strains north of Carlisle are blocked. Do Not Journey between Carlisle and Scotland."
It added: "Traces will stay closed till the top of the day (31 December). There is no such thing as a ticket acceptance in place with @LNER. As a consequence of heavy street flooding, there can be no rail substitute companies."
Swathes of the A74(M) connecting Scotland and England had been closed on Friday after downpours led to lake-like circumstances on the trunk street. Visitors Scotland reported later that day that the incident had been cleared – however Avanti has advised enquiring travellers that buses is not going to be laid on.
