Invoice Maher closed out the twenty first season premiere of HBO’s Actual Time Friday evening by taking over the scandals surrounding Rep. George Santos (R-NY). His massive takeaway? Democrats are in charge for believing his many, many lies.
“After all, we’ve seen liars earlier than,” the host mentioned of American politicians, “but it surely was at all times about tacking from the acute to the middle of your personal social gathering.” What Santos “pioneered,” he argued, is the concept that “since we’re all in our personal hermetically sealed media bubbles,” he may “fake to be all the pieces to voters in each events.”
Whereas, on the one hand, Santos pandered to the suitable by going all in on Trump’s election lies, Maher claimed that the actual motive he gained his election is that he satisfied the left to return out for him—one thing not precisely supported by proof.
“How did a Trump-loving, election-denying white nationalist get elected in a Democrat-leaning district?” he requested. “Easy, he advised them what they wished to listen to too.” He unnoticed the truth that New York’s Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin considerably out-performed Santos on Lengthy Island.
“What do liberals love?” Maher requested. “Id politics and victimhood.” That’s why, in his estimation, Santos claimed to be one of many earliest COVID circumstances and be a “Jew-ish” descendent of Holocaust survivors.
“Everyone retains asking, how may a man like this get elected?” he continued, chalking it as much as “tribalism” with Democrats as a lot if no more at fault than the Republicans who've largely rallied round him even after his lies have been uncovered.
As Maher put it, “Republicans love a winner and Democrats love somebody whose life story makes you wish to kill your self.”
In the end, he concluded, it was Santos’ id as a “courageous, unhappy, proudly homosexual, half-Black, Latino Holocaust sufferer” that apparently satisfied sufficient Democrats to place him in workplace. “Vote for him? I’m shocked they didn’t have him host the Oscars!”
