Section of M8 shut down as mercy crews race to 'serious' Scots road crash

A piece of Scotland's busiest motorrway has been shut down following a 'critical' highway crash.

Emergency providers together with police and ambulance crews, are presently in attendance at Junction 4A of the M8 at Heartlands in West Lothian.

Motorists have been warned to count on delays of as much as 90 minutes as diversions are in place at Junction 4A at Heartlands to B7066 in Harthill.

Autos have been suggested to rejoin the M8 at Junction 5. A medical helicopter is reportedly in attendance to help with the continued incident.

The extent of the collision and whether or not there are any accidents is presently unclear.

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “Emergency providers are on the scene of a crash on the M8 westbound close to junction 5 at Harthill. The incident was reported shortly after 4pm on Monday, October 17.

“The highway is presently closed.”
