Co Down man jailed after dogs so badly treated they were missing part of faces

A Co Down man has been jailed and banned from conserving animals for all times after inflicting “horrendous” struggling to canines.

A decide stated it was shocking that among the animals in Marcus McMillan’s care had survived. Some had elements of their faces lacking.

He was sentenced to 5 months in jail this week.

McMillan, of Drumlough Street, Royal Hillsborough, beforehand pleaded responsible to 1 cost of inflicting pointless struggling to 5 canines and one cost of failing to fulfill the wants of 5 canines in a case introduced by Lisburn & Castlereagh Metropolis Council.

The costs date again to April 2021 and breach Part 4 and Part 9 of the Welfare of Animals Act (NI) 2011.

On April 13 2021, the council’s animal welfare service attended the property having been notified by PSNI of issues for the animals residing in an outhouse and pens.

Paramilitary Crime Activity Drive officers, assisted by the Police Service’s Tactical Help Group and native district officers, had carried out a search within the Royal Hillsborough space and found and seized quite a few canines with severe accidents.

Detective Inspector Corrigan stated: “In the course of the search, officers discovered a complete of ten canines. Disturbingly, most of the canines had sustained extraordinarily severe accidents to their faces. The council’s animal welfare service was alerted to the state of affairs instantly and attended the scene.’’

The animal welfare officers discovered 10 canines with various levels of significant harm.

Of the ten canines saved in cages in outbuildings on the website, 9 have been Patterdale Terrier sorts and one was a Wheaten Terrier kind.

The canines had accidents to their heads and faces. They'd untreated accidents together with holes by means of the tissue surrounding their mouths, elements of their faces lacking and different severe facial accidents, some newer than others.

The 5 canines with energetic infections across the jaws required rapid remedy. One required hospitalisation and surgical procedure.

McMillan was sentenced to 5 months’ imprisonment and a lifetime ban from conserving animals was imposed. Lisburn and Castlereagh Metropolis Council have been awarded full prices of £6048.
