Queen reunited with Philip in tiny King George VI Memorial Chapel

The Queen has been reunited along with her beloved husband the Duke of Edinburgh, interred alongside him within the King George VI Memorial Chapel.

The King and the royal household gathered for a non-public burial service on Monday in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Fortress, following the Queen’s state funeral and committal service.

The tiny King George VI Memorial Chapel homes the stays of the Queen’s father George VI, her mom the Queen Mom and sister Princess Margaret.

When Philip died 17 months in the past, his coffin was interred within the Royal Vault of St George’s – able to be moved to the memorial chapel when the Queen died.

A press release on the royal household’s official web site mentioned: “The Queen was buried along with The Duke of Edinburgh, at The King George VI Memorial Chapel.”

The assertion mentioned the burial service, which befell at 7.30pm, was carried out by the Dean of Windsor.

The central function of the pale stone memorial chapel annexe, which was added on to the north aspect of St George’s behind the North Quire Aisle in 1969, is a black stone slab set into the ground.

It's inscribed with “George VI” and “Elizabeth” in gold lettering and accompanied by their years of beginning and loss of life.

Princess Margaret, who died in 2002, was cremated and her ashes have been initially positioned within the Royal Vault, earlier than being moved to the George VI memorial chapel along with her mother and father’ coffins when the Queen Mom died weeks later.
