A person who sparked a gun scare at a practice station was discovered to be carrying solely a backyard hose nozzle.
Armed cops rushed to the scene and surrounding roads have been closed after James Stevenson advised Scotrail staff he had a 9mm pistol.
Hamilton Sheriff Courtroom heard on Friday that Stevenson threatened to shoot himself however later surrendered.
Armed officers then found what the 'weapon' he'd been holding actually was.
The 32-year-old admitted committing a breach of the peace at Carfin practice station on December 22 final yr.
Chloe O'Hara, prosecuting, stated three upkeep staff noticed Stevenson on the platform shortly after midnight.
He advised them he had discovered a gun and refused to take his hand out of his pocket.
Ms O'Hara advised the court docket: "They backed away and contacted British Transport Police.
"Surrounding roads have been closed and no trains have been allowed to enter the station.
"The accused went to the station's Assist Level and advised an operator that if he noticed armed police or loads of police he would shoot himself.

"Shortly after this he walked out of the station and shouted 'I wish to give up'.
"He walked in the direction of cops with one hand within the air and the opposite hid in his high.
"He was advised to lift each fingers above his head and initially refused.
"Cops retreated a protected distance and the accused sat down on the bottom.
"Then officers from the firearms unit arrived. They instructed Stevenson to lie on the bottom.
"He did so and was handcuffed. A backyard hose nozzle was positioned subsequent to him."
Defence agent Rowan Myles stated homeless Stevenson has points with alcohol, suffers from despair and is "socially remoted".
The solicitor acknowledged: "I advised him that, given an armed response unit had attended this incident, he's fortunate to be alive.
"His response was that he has nothing to really feel fortunate about."
Sheriff John Speir described Stevenson's circumstances as "bleak" and remanded him in custody till November for background reviews.
