Council worker pay rise would be capped at £3,000 for well-off staff under new plan to end strike

Pay rises for better-off council workers can be capped below plans mentioned to finish waves of strikes by native authority employees.

After an intervention by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, it's understood the proposal on the desk is to cap rises for employees incomes over £60,000 to £3,000.

It is going to be mentioned by council chiefs at a gathering beginning at 9am this morning. Council bosses and commerce unions have been at loggerheads over a failure to succeed in a pay deal for employees.

The dispute led to strikes by refuse employees and faculties are scheduled to shut subsequent week when cleaners and janitors stroll out. One of many key gripes of the present supply is that it was extra helpful to greater paid workers than low paid employees.

After a summit chaired by the First Minister yesterday, which ended at 11.50pm, pay rises can be capped if the proposition tabled is accepted by council umbrella group COSLA.

It's understood the revised plan wouldn't value councils, who're ready to desk a proper supply, any extra money.

If COSLA make a proper supply, optimistic noises from the unions might see strike motion known as off.

Based on the Scottish Authorities, the newest rejected supply included a cost of at the very least £1,925 for council workers, with these incomes £20,000 receiving £2,000.

However commerce union Unite mentioned the cost could possibly be as little as £989 for some staff, with 85% receiving between £1,925 and £2,000, and any cost wouldn't be recurring.

A spokesperson for GMB Scotland, one of many unions whose members have been putting, mentioned: “We imagine progress has been made and would hope final night time’s negotiations will lead to a contemporary supply that may be put to our native authorities committee for assessment.”
