Man murdered in Belfast city centre named

A person murdered in central Belfast final weekend has been named as Gareth Rynne.

The 39-year-old died in hospital after being assaulted, police consider.

A 27-year-old male has been arrested and is being questioned on suspicion of homicide.

A senior officer has appealed for info on the case.

Detective Inspector Foreman stated: "Enquiries are ongoing and at this stage we consider the sufferer had been assaulted within the Callender Road space of town within the early hours of Sunday August 14, earlier than sadly passing away in hospital.

“A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of homicide and stays in custody at the moment.

On Friday Sinn Fein councillor John Gormley instructed the Belfast Telegraph he was shocked by the crime and inspired anybody with info to contact the police.

“It's an absolute shame and a tragedy that a man has been murdered within the metropolis centre,” he stated.
