South Lanarkshire Council notified Lanarkshire residents of the closure by way of their social media channels posting: "New Park Road and Auchinraith Avenue, Hamilton, are closed as a consequence of a Police incident at Morrisons. Native diversions in place."

A Police Scotland spokesman informed us : “At round 12.50pm on Sunday, August 21, we had been requested to help the Scottish Fireplace and Rescue Service with an evacuation and street closure at Morrisons Petrol Station, New Park Road, Hamilton, as a consequence of a potential fuel leak.
“The street reopened at 1.40pm.”
