Hamilton Accies boss hails side's spirit as he reponds to 'controversial penalty' award in win over Arbroath

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin praised his gamers' character after they picked up their first win of the Championship marketing campaign in controversial circumstances over 10-man Arbroath.

Steve Lawson transformed a 58th minute penalty to seal all three factors for Accies after Arbroath skipper Thomas O'Brien was despatched off for dealing with Dario Zanatta's goal-bound effort after nice work from Ryan One.

Arbroath have been livid with the double whammy resolution which Dick Campbell described because the "softest he has seen in 33 years within the recreation."

However Rankin was pleased with his gamers' efforts and says it was about time a penalty resolution went of their favour.

He mentioned: "I am delighted to get the three factors.
