A person was rushed to hospital on Tuesday after a dramatic water rescue off the north coast of Scotland. The MV Alfred, operated by Pentland Ferries, was grounded on the island of Swona at about 2pm throughout its crossing between Gills Bay on the mainland and St Margaret's Hope on South Ronaldsay, Orkney.
Two lifeboats from Thurso and Longhope have been despatched to the uninhabited island to assist evacuate the 97 folks onboard, the coastguard mentioned. One aboard the vessel has been taken to hospital, the Scottish Ambulance Service mentioned, and has been admitted to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall.
There have been 82 passengers on board on the time of the grounding, the ferry operator mentioned. The ship was being escorted to St Margaret's Hope.
A Pentland Ferries spokesperson mentioned: "Passengers had already been transferred to the lifeboats earlier than the ship was refloated."
A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Company mentioned the vessel was refloated inside 90 minutes of the grounding, and continued below its personal energy to port.
"It has been escorted by the 2 lifeboats in addition to two tugs from Orkney," the spokesman mentioned. " Coastguard Rescue Groups from Kirkwall and St Margaret's Hope have been additionally despatched to satisfy the vessel at port."
