Historic lifeboat hauled through Ayrshire town as part of 150th celebration

Volunteers mucked in to assist haul a 2.1 ton historic lifeboat as an Ayrshire city celebrated 150 years of saving lives at sea.

Gamers from Marr Rugby membership and native scout teams helped Troon RNLI toast its milestone late after final years bash was axed as a consequence of Covid.

The massive William Riley lifeboat which dates again to 1909 and served Whitby, was hauled by the streets to re-enact how the city’s first lifeboat would have been launched in 1971.

The occasion on Saturday, July 16 kicked off with rugby membership members pulling the long-lasting boat from North Shore Highway, by the city, onto the South Seaside Esplanade.

Crowds gathered to look at the long-lasting boat being pulled with the parade fronted by 1 st Troon Boys Brigade Pipe band because it weaved by the city.

At South Seaside, leaders and members of the 28th Ayrshire (Troon) Scout Group, the Troon Tiger Explorer Scout Unit and the Troon Guides hauled the boat alongside to Titchfield Highway Automotive Park.

Former Troon RNLI Lifeboat Coxswain Ian Johnson mentioned: “As Troon RNLI lifeboat station celebrates its a hundred and fiftieth anniversary, a re-enactment of the day that our first lifeboat, Might Sinclair arrived in Troon in 1871 was a becoming technique to begin this years Open Day.

“My thanks go to the Whitby Historic Lifeboat Belief for bringing the William Riley to Troon for our Open Day and to all of the native teams who assisted with the pull by Troon.

Following the lifeboat pull, Troon RNLI lifeboat station swung open its doorways to host an Open Day.
