First picture of Scots man who tragically died after kayak capsized on River Spey

Tributes have been paid to Scots man who might be "dearly missed" after he died when his kayak capsized on a Scots river.

Stuart Bailey, 51, has been named regionally following the tragic incident, which occurred on the River Spey close to Fochabers in Moray at round 4.45pm on Sunday, July 17. Emergency companies raced to the river however Stuart, from Tomintoul in Moray, was pronounced useless on the scene, surrounded by his devastated buddies.

Following the information, his heartbroken household and buddies have paid tribute to the "nice man" who might be "dearly missed" by all who knew him. Elevating the alarm on Stuart's private Fb web page, his household wrote: “Pricey buddies.

"It's with nice unhappiness to tell you that yesterday at 4pm seventeenth of July 2022, Stuart Bailey tragically misplaced his life in a canoeing accident on the Spey River the place he was surrounded by buddies.

“We're sending like to all of his family and friends throughout this surprising time, it is a nice loss for all and he might be dearly missed.”

Mark Thomson commented: “I’m so sorry to your loss, he was a prime man and a buddy. RIP Stu x.”

Barry Sharpington stated: “Completely heartbreaking. Liked Stuart, he was a great buddy to me. Deepest condolences to all his household.”

Fergus Mckay stated: “That is horrible, I’m so sorry. So many nice childhood recollections of being 'led astray' by my large cousin...”

John Leaney stated: “Am gutted, he was an incredible man and had plenty of nice instances with him . RIP buddy xx”

Micky O’Brien stated: “Such unhappy information! He was a prime lad.”

In the meantime Dan Turner stated: “Very unhappy information, Stuart was a prime bloke. RIP” and Alex Heighes added: “RIP large man.”

Police say their enquiries into establishing the complete circumstances surrounding the tragic incident stay ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “We have been known as round 4.45pm on Sunday, July 17, to a report of a capsized kayak on the River Spey close to Fochabers.

“Emergency companies attended and a 51-year-old man was recovered from the water and pronounced useless on the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the complete circumstances.”
