Coastguard airlifts woman from Isle of Harris cliff after hiking injury

A Scots girl was airlifted to security in a daring rescue effort involving the coastguard, mountain rescue and the police.

HM Coastguard have been alerted to the scenario final night time at round 7:30pm after a lady fell while hillwalking on the Isle of Harris.

The lady was strolling alongside Sron Ulladale, the most important overhanging cliff within the UK, when the accident occurred. Because of the distant location the coastguard helicopter was known as in to elevate her to security.

The lady was situated above Ulladale Cave by the rescue workers. She is believed to have an ankle damage and was then transported to Stornaway Airport and onto Western Isles Hospital.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard Western Isles Skye and Lochaber stated: "At round 7.30pm yesterday HM Coastguard was known as after a lady dislocated her ankle on Sron Ulladale, Isle of Harris.

"Harris, Stornoway and Ness coastguard rescue groups have been despatched together with Hebrides Mountain Rescue Workforce, the Scottish Ambulance and the coastguard helicopter from Inverness.

"The helicopter flew her to Stornoway airport and into the care of the ambulance service"

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “Officers have been known as to a report an injured walker above the Ulladale Cave, Amhuinnsuidhe, Isle of Harris round 7.05pm on Wednesday, 13 July, 2022.

“Police, together with HM Coastguard and Scottish Ambulance Service, situated the injured walker and she or he was airlifted to Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway for remedy."
