Retired Dumfries and Galloway nurse receives highest possible honour from Royal College of Nursing

A former nurse has obtained the best honour bestowed to members for service to the Royal Faculty of Nursing.

Vanessa Martin retired to Sandgreen close to Gatehouse after a prestigious nursing profession in cleft providers.

Throughout her time, starting as a scientific nurse specialist, she established the primary training programme for nursing youngsters with clefts and obtained awards for her work in supporting the households of kids with cleft lip and palate.

In retirement, Vanessa, who's now 77, has ensured her ardour for nursing is shared by means of her work with the Dumfries and Galloway department of the RCN the place she has been secretary for 5 years.

And she or he has now been offered with the Award of Advantage on the RCN Congress in Glasgow.

Vanessa mentioned: “I'm really honoured to obtain this award and recognition from RCN.

“It’s been a privilege to work with and help nursing colleagues within the Dumfries and Galloway department to encourage them to interact with the faculty and converse up for our occupation.

“We're a crew and I've obtained a substantial amount of help myself from nursing colleagues and the RCN.”

Vanessa has been described as a “linchpin” for the Dumfries and Galloway department and members had been eager to see her recognised for her management, expertise and dedication.

Chairman of the RCN Scotland board, Julie Lamberth, mentioned: “Nursing is in Vanessa’s blood.

“Having had a extremely profitable profession, she has taken her power and enthusiasm for the occupation into retirement and is a real credit score to the faculty.

“I’m delighted that Vanessa’s dedication has been recognised with the award of benefit.”
