Mystical mini Kelpies visit Irvine this weekend ahead of sea monster exhibit

The magical Kelpies are set to go to Irvine's shores this weekend simply in time for the Maritime Museums' upcoming 'Sea Monsters' exhibit.

Based mostly on the Scottish people story of shape-shifting water spirits, the Kelpies had been immortalised by artist Andy Scott who created the 30-metre-high sculptures to symbolise the horse-powered heritage of Scotland’s canals.

A 1/10 scale reproduction of the rearing horse heads will make its approach to the Puffers cafe for the second time since 2017.

Christopher Woodland, business supervisor on the Scottish Maritime Museum, stated: “We’re thrilled to welcome the Kelpie Maquettes again to Irvine Harbourside.
