Drivers in Kilmarnock are experiencing crippling delays this afternoon.
A double-header of main highway closures has led to a surge in visitors by way of the city with motorists enduring huge queues.
The A71 bypass is at present closed between Moorfield and Bellfield Interchange whereas grass chopping takes place.
And a part of Queen's Drive is closed utterly after works to Victoria Bridge have been prolonged once more.
The 2 main entry and exit roads to the city being shut down has had a knock-on impact elsewhere within the space.
Dundonald Highway has been gridlocked with gradual shifting visitors for almost all of the day with queues extending from the intersection with South Hamilton and McLelland Drive proper down previous Gargieston Main college — greater than half-a-mile away.
One motorist stated: "That is actually poorly thought-out stuff — two main roads out and in of Kilmarnock closed over the weekend. It isn't on.
"Queues have been proper down Dundonald Highway as a result of the bypass is closed. Folks have been sick of ready in queues and you can truly see them doing u-turns and leaving."
Work on the A71 received underway yesterday with work from Moorfield to Corsehill Mount roundabout being carried out. Upkeep is scheduled to be accomplished this night.
However work on Queen's Drive is about to proceed till Friday.
Ayrshire Roads Allaince stated of the A71 closure: "A71, Kilmarnock from Moorfield roundabout to the boundary with North Ayrshire. Programmed for 5am till 6pm on Saturday, June 18.
"Different Route through B7064, B7081 to Crosshouse/Springside/Dreghorn and A71 slip highway to Corsehill Mount roundabout and vice versa.
"A71, Kilmarnock from Moorfield roundabout to Bellfield Interchange. Programmed for 5am till 6pm on Sunday, June 19.
"Different Route through Queens Dr, Hurlford Rd, Campbell St, Low Glencairn St, West Shaw St, McLelland Dr, Dundonald Rd, A759 and B7064 to Moorfield roundabout and vice versa.
"Emergency entry can be maintained throughout the above highway closures by way of the works website."
