Edinburgh man's home floods with 'rancid' sewage after engineer cuts pipe

A man 's toilet flooded with sewage after telecom engineers mistakenly minimize a pipe exterior his home. John Morgan, 51, stated the ground was coated in rancid wastewater and he was pressured to wash up the mess after it poured out of his bathe plughole.

At first John did not observed an issue however about two weeks in the past his downstairs rest room started to overflow with excrement, urine and used rest room roll. He known as a plumber who informed him the sewage pipe exterior his home had be minimize.

Dad-of-three John stated: "CityFibre who have been putting in the cables had minimize the sewage pipe clear via. For 3 months the sewage had been backing up.

"Then about two weeks in the past the sewage beginning popping out of the bathe plughole and the bathroom was blocked and overflowing. While you flushed the bathroom upstairs s*** and used rest room paper was popping out of the bathe plughole, it was disgusting.

"It was pouring out of the bathe, the bathtub and the bathroom onto the ground. The toilet flooring was swimming in sewage."

IT contractor John reported the minimize pipe to Scottish Water on June 12 and stated it was lastly fastened on Tuesday, June 28. John, who rents out a part of his property via Airbnb, has needed to inform visitors they could not use the lavatory.

He added: "I used to be anxious it was going to overflow into the road so I known as Scottish Water and stated it was an emergency. It lastly acquired fastened Tuesday however it had been occurring for 2 weeks.

"It was terrible, I needed to clear all of it up. They've carte blanche to show up on individuals's streets and begin digging, however they're disrupting individuals's lives. They aren't bothered in regards to the neighbourhood."

Paul Wakefield, Edinburgh Space Supervisor for CityFibre, stated: "Following works on Full Fibre deployment within the Firrhill space, we obtained report of injury to a sewage pipe. Scottish Water is working to analyze the reason for the difficulty and is making repairs.

"We've been working intently with Scottish Water and have been partaking with the resident via the Metropolis of Edinburgh Council."

A Scottish Water spokesperson stated: "We attended and investigated the burst pipe on June 12, the day it was reported to us. Sadly, as a consequence of some points with finding the the place the difficulty was and the necessity for added tools to hold out the restore, it took longer than anticipated to plan the work.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and for the time it has taken to start out this work."
