SNP appoint Dumbarton councillor as new leader of West Dunbartonshire Council opposition

Dumbarton councillor Karen Conaghan will lead the SNP’s opposition on West Dunbartonshire Council, as she took over from Jonathan McColl because the group’s chief.

Labour took management of the council administration earlier this month, successful 12 seats - together with two in Lomond and Leven.

And following the shock outcome, Councillor McColl made the choice to step down as chief of the SNP group.

Councillor McColl will proceed to function a member for Lomond.

It marks the beginning of a brand new period for the SNP in West Dunbartonshire, with Councillor Conaghan joined by first time Councillor Gordon Scanlon, who will function depute group chief.

Councillor Scanlon was elected within the Kilpatrick ward.

Assembly final week the group of 9 unanimously elected Councillor Conaghan, who has been a member of the council since 2017.
