Majority of Scots want UK to retain nuclear weapons and stay in Nato, poll finds

Most Scots need the UK to retain nuclear weapons and stay a member of Nato, a ballot has discovered.

It comes as the way forward for the defence organisation and its potential growth has been thrust into the highlight following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

A survey of 1,000 adults north of the Border discovered 58 per cent backed the UK maintaining nuclear weapons, with 20 per cent in opposition to and 23 per cent saying they did not know.

The SNP and Scottish Greens are each firmly against nuclear weapons being stored in Scotland.
