Anne Robinson has introduced her departure from Countdown after only one 12 months.
The 77-year-old had taken over from The Apprentice star Nick Hewer as host of the Channel 4 quiz present in 2021, recording 265 episodes of the present over the previous 12 months.
Additionally following within the footsteps of Richard Whiteley, Des Lynam, Des O’Connor and Jeff Stelling, Anne was the primary lady to host Countdown since its launch in 1982.
She is about to proceed within the function till the summer season, when a brand new host whose title is but to be introduced will take over, the Mirror stories.
The previous Weakest Hyperlink star issued a press release on her choice to stop, saying: "I've had a blast internet hosting this excellent present. And I stayed longer than I signed up for. Now it's time for an older lady to take the reins.
"I hope too I've inspired TV bosses to grasp that not all ladies on the improper finish of their seventies are in care houses enjoying bingo and watching conjuring methods," she continued.
"The truth is the genius of Countdown is that it is a sensible strategy to preserve the mind exercised. I run 5k most days of the week. And I can now do an anagram at twice the velocity I may this time final 12 months.
"However I've grandchildren, a big backyard and a house in New York, all deserving extra of my consideration," Robinson added.
A spokesperson for the long-lasting present stated: "Fast-witted Anne has been an excellent host on this iconic present."
Anne joined mathematician Rachel Riley and lexicographer Susie Dent on the collection in June final 12 months.
There have been a number of stories of clashes between Robinson and Riley - all of which have been denied by the celebrities.
Rachel instructed Lorraine Kelly on her ITV present in November: "You already know to not consider tabloids. I feel it's simply you've got some ladies there now so that they need to make one thing up.
"I've seen all of the headlines of the feuds escalating. I've been on maternity depart for about six to eight weeks or one thing."
Talking about Robinson's well-known icy persona, for which she gained fame after years of delivering slicing remarks to contestants on The Weakest Hyperlink, Riley instructed Lorraine: "She is just not the cuddliest particular person on this planet. It's only a completely different present now. She is making it her personal.
"She is getting stuff out of the contestants. Typically it's barbed, generally it's humorous. She has received a unique flavour."
Channel 4 has confirmed that the brand new Countdown host might be introduced sooner or later.
