Samsung apologises for 'tone deaf' ad featuring woman running alone at 2am

Samsung has apologised after issuing an advert which exhibits a girl out operating by herself at 2am whereas carrying the model's headphones.

The advert has been known as "tone deaf" by ladies's security marketing campaign group Reclaim These Streets, who drew consideration to the killing of 23-year-old trainer Ashling Murphy whereas she was out on a run in January.

Ashling's dying led to an outpouring of grief and anger at one other girl being killed, and led to the hashtag "#shewasonarun", with ladies sharing tales of being harassed whereas out jogging, the Liverpool ECHOreviews.

The difficulty of girls's security shot to nationwide media consideration in March 2021 after the kidnap and homicide of Sarah Everard by serving police officer Wayne Couzens.

In September 2021, 28-year-old major faculty trainer Sabina Nessa was killed whereas strolling by a Greenwich park.

Jamie Klingler, co-founder of Reclaim These Streets, condemned the Samsung advert, saying: "It is so tone-deaf, particularly in gentle of Ashling Murphy's dying. It is disrespectful. It is not secure for us to run at evening."

One scene within the advert exhibits a person on a motorcycle using up behind the lady, with the pair then interacting.

Ms Klingler was astounded by the scene. "That is the bit that basically made me wince", she mentioned, "it is virtually laughable how dangerous this advert is."

She added that the advert "completely ought to be pulled".

Esther Newman, editor of the Girls's Operating journal and podcast, mentioned: "I am unable to think about any girl eager to run at the moment, wherever, actually not in a metropolis.

"It looks like a very naïve advert. In principle, it is a beautiful concept (to have the ability to run at 2am). In actuality it isn't taking place."

Samsung mentioned: "The Evening Owls marketing campaign was designed with a constructive message in thoughts: to have a good time individuality and freedom to train in any respect hours. It was by no means our intention to be insensitive to ongoing conversations round ladies's security.
