The 72-year-old girl was strolling down Chapelwell Road in Saltcoats at 10.40am on Wednesday, March 9 when a lady threatened her and demanded cash.
The suspect ran away and no cash was stolen.
She is described as being between 35 and 39-years-old, of heavy construct, round 5ft 5in, with darkish hair and sporting a darkish blue three-quarter size jacket with black trousers.
Police say they're additionally investigating an assault of the lady however have confirmed she sustained no accidents.
