Council reveals cost of clearing up storm damage

The harm left behind by three main storms over the winter has pressured West Lothian Council to pay hundreds to personal contractors to assist with the clear up.

Scotland has been battered not too long ago, with excessive winds from Storm Arwen in November, and up to date storms Dudley and Eunice inflicting extreme harm.

The council has confronted quite a few emergency tree enquiries brought on by the latest storms which have overtaken the routine work schedule, whereas personal contractors have earned £16,000 serving to council employees clear fallen timber.

Andy Johnston, countryside supervisor, gave particulars of the work at conferences of the native space committees together with Linlithgow, and Fauldhouse and the Breich Valley.

He mentioned: “We now have been coping with the fallout from the three named storms.

“There have been quite a few timber down within the ward,and throughout the council space.

“The arborist squad has been coping with that.

“It has had an influence on basic upkeep and I’m within the strategy of bringing in contractors to assist transfer the backlog.”

On a brighter observe he added: “We're due to enter summer season hours in March and want to begin the summer season programme of grass chopping on the finish of April.”

A spokesman for the council confirmed council arborists had been coping with emergency tree enquiries, so weren't capable of undertake their regular routine enquiries which has resulted in a backlog of tree associated works.
