Bid made to protect woodland trees amid campaign against Dumbarton housing development

Woodland bushes on the centre of a neighborhood marketing campaign towards a Dumbarton housing growth look set to be given protected standing.

Councillors might be requested to agree that a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) is made to guard bushes round Brucehill Cliffs at a planning assembly tomorrow (Wednesday).

It follows issues by native teams over plans for 85 houses, which they are saying will see the lack of mature bushes alongside the clifftop and have antagonistic knock-on results to the adjoining Havoc meadows nature conservation space.

A ‘Clifftop Coalition’ of neighborhood teams in Dumbarton West have joined forces to oppose the event and embrace Dumbarton West Neighborhood Motion Group (DWCAG), Pals of Havoc Meadows and Pals of Dumbarton Foreshore.

Slate Island Developments and Miller Properties lodged the planning utility final yr after the positioning, which is on the former Notre Dame Convent, was purchased by brothers Sandy and James Easdale, house owners of the McGill’s Buses agency and former Rangers administrators.

Councillor Iain McLaren requested a TPO in August final yr, with a provisional order taking impact on September 28.

Laws requires affirmation of the TPO inside six months of this date.

A report ready by planning officers states that the planning utility would require the removing of bushes throughout the space coated TPO.

They are saying it means their protected standing could be a cloth consideration within the evaluation of the appliance.

It reads: “The TPO features a combination of predominantly broadleaved bushes, with a major variety of mature and huge specimens current.

“The bushes kind a top quality space of woodland that's distinguished in native and wider views, from Havoc Street to the west, Havoc Fields to the south and from throughout the former convent website.

“On account of their shut relationship with the clifftop atmosphere, the bushes make a really important contribution to the visible amenity and panorama character of the realm.”

They are saying the species are indicators of historical woodland on the positioning and say their loss may impression on the setting of the character reserve.

The historic Wallace’s Cave can be set throughout the cliff, which officers say “kind a major native landmark and widespread cultural function inside Dumbarton”.

5 supporting representations have been submitted to the council, in addition to an objection from Miller Properties, who've queried the technical competence of the TPO and the deserves and foundation on which the council was looking for to make the order
