14th century Scottish castle with axes above beds is one of UKs spookiest holiday homes

Have a look inside one in all Britain's spookiest vacation houses - a 14th century citadel the place friends can sleep with axes above their heads.

Airplane Fortress in Stirling has been graced by royalty together with Mary, Queen of Scots and Prince Charles.

Actor Rick Carr uploaded a spooky photograph of his single mattress - with two axes positioned above his head.

And he wrote from his @rscarr account: "We're all staying in a citadel. And that is my room for the week "

The citadel is positioned in a rural location and is break up into two buildings which could be rented out individually or collectively.

Each the tower, in-built 1449, and the manor, in-built 1523, could be employed, with a minimal reserving requirement of three nights at a price of £3,206.

Rick's tweets have gone viral, with hundreds commenting their ideas and emotions on the weird lodging.

One consumer mentioned: "I might slightly sleep outdoors. And not using a tent. Or sleeping bag. Than keep in that room."

One other mentioned they have been "going to have nightmares" after seeing the photographs and a 3rd wrote: "I will write a thriller about this [...] and I can inform you now it will not finish properly."

However some individuals say they love the medieval area, posting "I might love to remain there", "It seems superior" and "That is beautiful! My sort of keep".

Lodges.com UK even retweeted Rick's photographs and wrote: "Questioning if they've a moat pool, tbh".

The citadel is described on-line as a "magical but welcoming and comfy vacation house".

It boasts seven bedrooms with 14 beds, six loos and a bunch of old style fixtures together with spiral staircases, stone vaulted rooms and Jane Seymour portraits.

The citadel can also be a well-liked area for marriage ceremony bookings, with giant gardens full with ponds and a rowing boat.
