Sony’s Marvel Cinematic Universe is (lastly) getting its first feminine superhero, and Dakota Johnson has been tapped for the function. The 50 Shades of Gray actress is in talks to play the titular character within the Spider-Man spinoff movie Madame Net.
The casting information comes as Sony’s newest Marvel launch, Spider-Man: No Method House, continues to smash field workplace information. The Tom Holland-led blockbuster is at the moment sitting at No. 8 on the checklist of the highest-grossing movies of all time.
S.J. Clarkson, who has directed episodes of Succession, Jessica Jones, and Vinyl, might be within the director’s chair for Madame Net. The script was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the writers of the upcoming Jared Leto-led Spider-Man spinoff, Morbius.
The character of Madame Net was first launched in 1980 in The Wonderful Spider-Man comedian sequence. A mutant with psychic skills, she has served as a mentor to Spider-themed superheroes and is historically depicted as a blind, ailing, paralyzed, and aged girl who's stored alive by web-like life assist machines. Contemplating that not-so-glamorous description, we’re assuming the brand new movie will take some artistic liberties with Johnson at its middle.
The actress has had a busy previous few months, with a critically acclaimed function reverse Olivia Colman in Netflix’s The Misplaced Daughter, in addition to two movies that premiered at Sundance, Am I Okay? and Cha Cha Actual Easy. The latter was bought to Apple for a powerful $15 million.
A significant superhero franchise movie like Madame Net is a departure from Johnson’s regular indie fare. Her final main studio movie function was as Anastasia Steele within the unforgettable 50 Shades trilogy.
