Mark Stoops will be in Lexington for the foreseeable future. On Tuesday, Kentucky announced a contract extension that will keep stoops with the Wildcats through 2027. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg was first on the news.

“#Kentucky announces contract extension for [Mark Stoops] through 2027 season,” Rittenberg reported. “Includes guaranteed extensions for any season with seven wins (one-year extension) or 10 wins (two-year extension).”
Over the past several weeks, Stoops name circulated around several powerhouse programs including LSU, Florida, and Oklahoma.
Kentucky’s athletic department silenced those rumors with the aforementioned extension. Stoops’ ability to turnaround the Wildcats’ football program has been nothing short of impressive.

Since taking over the middling program nine years ago, Stoops has Kentucky at 9-3 with wins over SEC blue bloods UF and LSU. In the university’s previous 100 years, the Wildcats had only won over eight games four times.
Now Stoops is here to stay. Or at least for a while.
He’s 58-53 in his near decade-long tenure. Thanks to strong midwest recruiting and some fantastic X’s-and-O’s, Kentucky has the chance to be relevant in the SEC for as long as Stoops is on the sideline.
