UConn head coach Jim Mora Jr. reportedly brought on one of the first members of his staff according to a college football insider.
Per The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, Mora hired Maine head coach Nick Charlton to be the Huskies’ offensive coordinator.

“Maine head coach Nick Charlton is accepting a job with Jim Mora to become the offensive coordinator at UConn,” Feldman tweeted. “The 32-year-old Charlton was 14-13 in three seasons as head coach. [Matt Zenitz] first reported the move.”
Mora’s new hire is one of the first steps of his uphill climb to build UConn’s football program to relevance.
The 59-year-old head coach brings 30-plus years of coaching experience both in the NFL and the college ranks to Storrs, Connecticut.

Mora’s most recent collegiate experience comes from his UCLA tenure where he coached the Bruins from 2012-2017. Prior to that, Mora spent the majority of his time in the NFL from 1985-2009.
Over the years, Mora has coached a number of college players that went on to be drafted and a stable of Pro Bowlers once he took over in the NFL.
Fans of the Huskies can only hope Mora can bring some semblance of that success to CT.
UConn finished 1-11 in the 2021 regular season. The team’s only victory came against in-state Ivy League school Yale eight games into the season.
