Sinn Fein leaders question Taoiseach and Tanaiste’s support of Robert Troy

The Taoiseach and the Tanaiste’s help of junior minister Robert Troy in the course of the controversy surrounding his property pursuits raises “severe questions” about their judgment, the Sinn Fein chief has mentioned.

Mr Troy described the final 10 days as “extraordinarily tough”, and thanked Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar and colleagues who had proven their help.

In an announcement the Longford-Westmeath TD mentioned he had not tried to hide something, including “my largest offence is my lack of due diligence”.

Final week he confirmed he needed to make seven amendments to the Dail register.

The Requirements in Public Workplace Fee (Sipo) and the Dail Committee on Parliamentary Privileges and Oversight are being urged to research issues associated to his property pursuits.

A spokesman for Mr Martin mentioned on Wednesday that it was “with remorse that the Taoiseach has accepted the resignation of Minister of State Robert Troy”.

He described Mr Troy as a “very dedicated, hardworking and environment friendly” junior minister whose “dedication to his work has been past query”.

“The minister clearly acknowledged that he made severe errors in relation to his declarations to the register of members’ pursuits, and he sincerely apologised for this,” the spokesman mentioned.
