A lady who attacked a baby on the street claimed she needed to act the way in which she did as a result of the toddler was "having a meltdown." Rebecca Shipman, 32, hauled the kid off the bottom by his arm and slapped him a number of instances on the physique in entrance of shocked onlookers.
One of many passers-by was so horrified by Shipman's conduct that she filmed her and reported the matter to the police. Shipman, Potterhill, Perth, admitted assaulting a 21-month-old boy in Primary Road, Perth, on March 12, 2021.
She admitted holding him off the bottom by his arm and repeatedly slapping him on the physique. Fiscal depute Stuart Hamilton advised Perth Sheriff Courtroom : "The kid was held off the bottom by his arm. She slapped him repeatedly on the physique.
"This was overseen by witnesses and one approached and advised the accused that they'd seen her hit the kid. The accused stated she did not.
"They took a photograph of the accused. When she was seen by police, she stated: 'He was having a meltdown and I needed to get him throughout the highway by some means'."
Solicitor John McLaughlin, defending, stated: "It will affect on her life dramatically in future. Her clarification is that it was a second of stress and issue."
Sheriff Nigel Cooke positioned her on a group payback order and underneath social work supervision for 18 months.
